The Colbert-Benton Guest House is a perfect choice for timeless, intimate weddings and small events that in turn benefit the community, as 100% of proceeds are donated to a local charity of your choosing from our provided list. We want to ensure your event goes smoothly and is tailored specifically to your needs. Due to this, we do things a little differently! Can I tour the house before I decide if I want to book?
Absolutely! Please contact the owner, Flo Hix, at 706.410.0151 to schedule a walk through tour.
How much is the rental fee?
That depends! We require a $750 deposit to secure your desired date, which is applied to the overall total. Since these events are unique to the individual, the desires and requests will be discussed during a follow up meeting with Flo Hix, the owner, within 10 days of submitting your your request. An event fee total will be agreed upon and secured by contract.
Note: If you decide to not book with us during your meeting, your date will be released and you will not be charged a deposit.
What's included in the rental fee? Can I pick which charity the fee goes to?
Weddings:
Access to the house*, barn and grounds for your event for 48 hours!
- You have access the day prior from noon to 10pm to prep and set up, or have your rehearsal dinner for no extra fee!
- You have access the day of the event from 8am - 10pm.
- You have access the day after the event from 8am - noon to breakdown.
10pm cut off must be adhered to due to county noise ordinances. All persons and vendors must be off property by 11pm.
Small events (luncheons, showers, etc.):
Access to the house*, barn and grounds for your event for 6 hours!
Photography sessions:
Access to the house*, barn and grounds for your alloted time.
Yes, you may pick which charity receives your donation from our list of local charities!
We also have rectangular or round tables, tablecloths, chairs, table decor, and a valet golf cart for an additional fee. We currently do NOT offer glassware, catering, bartending, floral/decoration, photography, or wedding coordinating efforts. An off duty officer must be present at your event and event insurance must be purchased.
* House access and use varies and is only available upon prior approval and written agreement from the owner, Flo Hix. Standard bridal prep may be staged on the first floor. Bridal prep and portrait photography may be taken inside the house, but please do NOT bring food or drinks in the house. A representative of The Colbert-Benton House must be present at all times.
When are payments due? Is there a payment plan?
What's due at booking: $750 to reserve your date.
What's due 60 days (2 months) after booking: Half of the remaining balance.
What's due 90 days (3 months) prior to your event: The final installment.
Partial payments may be made within these timelines. Cash or checks are preferred, but we accept Paypal. Please include last names of the couple and the event date on the memo line if opting to mail a check. Mail checks to: The Colbert-Benton House P.O. Box 9 Colbert GA 30628
We also reserve the right to request a credit card to be on file for any damages that are accrued on the property during your event. Any trash left behind will incur a cleaning and disposal fee.
What if I need to cancel my event? Do I get a refund? What about severe weather?
If you need to cancel your event and it's 6 months or more from the reserved date, you will receive a full refund. If it's less than 6 months away from the reserved date, we apologize but a refund will not be issued.
Photography sessions: No refunds are available but we will absolutely accommodate you if you need to reschedule your session to a different date!
Rainy day options can be discussed and planned as your event date draws near.
What is the guest count minimum? Can we pick our own caterers and vendors?
There is no guest minimum! However, there is a maximum of 125 guests including the bridal party.
Yes, you can choose your own caterers and vendors! We do not have a preferred vendor list at this time, so please pick whomever you'd enjoy! Alcohol is permitted, but only wine and beer. No liquor is permitted.
Security is required for your event. Please contact the Madison County Sheriff's Department to arrange for an off duty officer to be present.
For wedding guest restroom needs, porta-potties are required. We suggest 1 for every 25-30 guests, with a maximum of 3 or the option of a porta-potty trailer. Summers Plumbing offers standard and luxury trailer porta-potty rentals and they are of close proximity to the venue, see more information here. Bridal parties or smaller events like luncheons can use the house bathroom if it does not exceed 15 persons.
Can wedding guests stay in the house? Where do they park for the event?
The house is not offered as an Airbnb at this time, however there is The Carter House Airbnb across the street from The Colbert-Benton House. Book it for your family or bridal party!
For event parking, please park in the lot across Hwy 72, directly across from the house. We have a golf cart available to rent for valet purposes!
What kind of decor is allowed?
Please refrain from hammering/nailing/tacking in any kind of decorations. Decor may be secured by non-damaging methods, such as floral wire, twine/string/rope, or removable tape/Command Strips.
Any large/taper candles with open flame are NOT permitted; only small, floating tealight candles in tall, water-filled vases are permitted. LED/flameless candles are, of course, permissible!
I really want my dog to be a part of my special day, can they tag along?
We love dogs! Upon prior approval by the owner, they can absolutely be a part of your day but please note, they are NOT permitted inside of The Colbert-Benton House*. They must be leashed and with a dedicated adult handler at all times. Failure to pick up after your pooch will result in a cleaning and disposal fee.
*Service animals are exempt from this boundary.
